Identifying CMS Test Calls

Identifying CMS test calls can be easy. Here are four things to look for to help you know if you’re on a test call:

  • Most CMS testers will begin the conversation by asking, “Can you answer questions about Medicare Part D?” or “Can you answer questions about Medicare Part C?”
  • The test caller will generally sound scripted. If the LEP individual sounds like they are reading from a script, they may be a CMS test caller.
  • Test callers generally say they are calling on behalf of a mother, father, or other family member. For example, a common question might be, “My aunt uses Donnatal. Is that on your formulary?”
  • The questions the test caller asks will generally pertain to getting information on or applying for Extra Help, drug coverage, the cost of certain drugs, or general questions concerning premiums, drug spending, the coverage gap, or the Medication Therapy Management Program (MTMP).
